NARCOTICS

April 4, 2025 – At approximately 10:35 pm, observed a 1985 orange Chevrolet pickup traveling eastbound on Martin Street in the City of Greenville and it did not have a rear license plate light. I conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Daniel Bush. I asked Daniel to provide me with his driver’s license and he advised me that he did not have one. I asked Daniel if there were any drugs in the vehicle and he stated that there weren’t. I asked Daniel for consent to search his vehicle, and he gave me verbal consent to search his vehicle.

I returned to my cruiser and checked Daniel’s driving privileges through LEADS/NCIC and learned his driving privileges are under a non-compliance suspension from 02/28/2025 to 02/28/2027. I advised dispatch to have another unit come to my location for a vehicle search. Sgt. Smith and P.O. Slade arrived on the scene. I asked Daniel to exit his vehicle and walk to the front of my cruiser. I asked Daniel if I could search his pockets and he stated, “Go ahead”. Daniel began to empty his pockets, and Sgt. Smith saw what he believed to be a syringe in Daniel’s front right pocket of his pants. Sgt. Smith asked Daniel if he had a needle in his pocket and Daniel stated, “Yeah”. Daniel removed two empty syringes from his pocket. Daniel also removed a small clear bag from his front right pocket that contained a white crystal substance. I asked Daniel if the bag contained methamphetamine, and he stated he was not sure. I advised Daniel of his Miranda warning. I asked Daniel again if the bag contained methamphetamine and he stated, “I’m assuming it’s meth”.

I began searching Daniel’s pockets and located a second small clear bag containing a white crystal substance inside his front right pocket. Sgt. Smith placed Daniel in the back seat of his cruiser. P. O. Slade and I began searching Daniel’s vehicle and we did not locate any more illegal narcotics.

I walked to Sgt. Smith’s cruiser and spoke with Daniel about the syringes. I asked Daniel if he uses the syringes for methamphetamine. Daniel stated he used the syringes for methamphetamine at one point. Daniel stated he was trying to get rid of “That shit” and forgot that he had it in his pocket. I advised Daniel that I would be collecting the two bags containing a white crystal substance and the syringes. I advised Daniel that he would not be issued a citation today for driving under suspension, but this incident would be submitted to the Grand Jury. I advised Daniel that he would be contacted with Court information at a later time.

Sgt. Smith stayed with Daniel until he was picked up by a friend. I collected all the evidence, and I returned to the Greenville Police Department. The two clear bags containing the white crystal substance were placed into evidence at the Greenville Police Department and will be submitted to BCI for analysis. The two syringes were placed into evidence.

RECKLESS DRIVER

April 6, 2025 – At approximately 3:36 pm, Darke County Sheriff’s Office received a call for a traffic offense near US Route 127 and Wabash York Road. The complainant advised DCSO that a red Jeep was traveling southbound on SR 127, driving at a high rate of speed all over the road and going off the road numerous times.

The complainant advised the Jeep, then drove down into a ditch then returned to the roadway. The complainant followed the vehicle into Greenville, while stopped at the intersection of Wagner Avenue and Russ Road, the complainant advised that the vehicle registration was JLL3952. The complainant followed the vehicle until it reached the intersection of Shawnee Street and Northwood Street and the vehicle parked. At about this time myself and Deputy Sullivan observed the vehicle parked at that intersection with a male subject, later identified as Logan Albers, exiting the vehicle and beginning to run.

Deputy Sullivan told Logan to stop, to which he complied. Logan admitted to driving the vehicle, stating he was coming to a friend’s house, to which he parked several houses away with plenty of space to park in front of the house he pointed to. Logan stated he believed he parked in front of the wrong house, he later stated that he had known this friend since elementary school. The vehicle registration matched what the complainant had given to dispatch. Deputy Sullivan asked Logan why he was driving off the roadway and a high rate of speed. Logan stated that he did not go faster than 60 Mph but did admit to driving off the roadway twice. Logan stated that both times it was to swerve for deer.

Deputy Knight arrived on the scene, asking Logan if he had taken any illegal narcotics or alcohol, to which Logan stated no. Deputy Knight then asked if there were any illegal drugs in the vehicle, to which Logan stated no. P. O. Hall arrived on scene and had his partner conduct an open-air sniff around the vehicle, to which his partner alerted to. P.O. N. Colby and I searched the vehicle. In the vehicle, I observed a black and purple cylinder container resting in the center console near the emergency brake. When opening the container, I observed a large number of white rectangular pills with “GG249” engraved on them. The rectangular pills are suspected to be Alprazolam, commonly known as Xanax. I later counted 31 pills in the container. Several marijuana dab containers with residue and marijuana pens were located in the vehicle.

It was at this time that I read Logan his Miranda rights. When asking Logan about the pills, he stated they were not his and that they were a coworker’s and he must have left them in the vehicle, believing it was marijuana. Deputy Knight informed me while I was searching the car that Logan was having trouble balancing and was swaying. I then asked Logan if he was willing to perform a series of Field Sobriety Test, to which he consented at 4:17 pm.

Horizontal Gaze Nystagamus: Logan stated he does wear prescription contacts to operate a vehicle, but was not wearing them at this time. Logan stated he was able to see the stimulus prior to administering the test. During the test, Logan maintained tracking to the stimulus. During the test, I observed Logan’s pupils to be pinpoint. I also observed nystagmus at maximum deviation in Logan’s right eye.

Walk and Turn: Logan stated that he had a leg injury at work and that his left leg hurt; he stated that this injury would not prevent him from doing this test. Logan started the test two times while I was in the process of providing Logan with the instructions. While performing the test, Logan took one heel-to-toe step down. On his second step, he put his right foot off the line to regain balance, then took two more heel-to-toe steps, then stopped to turn around. When turning around, Logan spun around, then used his right foot for small steps to regain balance after having already turned around. Logan takes 4 heel-to-toe steps back, each step stopping to regain balance.

One Leg Stand: I informed Logan of the test, then demonstrated the test. stated he understood the test. Logan raised his left foot approximately one to two inches above the ground, Logan did not count out loud during this test and made movements with his mouth as if he was counting out loud. Logan was swaying during the entirety of this test and placed his foot down once then raised it again approximately one inch off the ground and began swaying again.

Due to Logan failing to properly perform the given Standardized Field Sobriety test, Kevin was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle under the influence of an illegal substance. I placed Logan in handcuffs, which were gap-checked and double-locked. Logan was placed in the back seat of my cruiser and was transported to the Greenville Police Department.
At the Greenville Police Department, Logan was read/shown the BMV2255 form with P.O. Hall as a witness. After reading the BMV2255 form, I requested Logan to provide a voluntary urine sample. Logan agreed to take the urine sample voluntarily. Logan gave a urine sample. The sample was placed into property and is to be sent to the Miami crime lab for analysis.

While at the Greenville Police Department, I asked Logan if he had taken anything while operating the vehicle. Logan stated he had smoked marijuana from his vape and was currently on Adderall, Logan stated that he was prescribed Adderall.

Logan was served his copy of the citations for possession of a schedule 4 drug and operating a vehicle while under the influence, along with a copy of the BMV2255. Logan was released to his stepmother, April Coats. The back seat of my cruiser was checked before and after transport and no contraband was found.

THEFT

March 20, 2025 – At approximately 3:10 pm, I was dispatched to 1700 Kitchenaid Way, in reference to a theft.

Upon my arrival, I made contact with the managers, who advised that they had a truck at the warehouse picking up a load of merchandise, but that they had been given the wrong location to take it to. I made contact with the drivers, who advised that they were sent to pick up and transport the items to somewhere in California. The order was supposed to go to Reno, Nevada. I asked the drivers, who were with Butu Transportation, who sent them the order for pick up, and they advised that they were hired by Armstrong Trucking.

Armstrong Trucking advised that they were contracted through Echo Transportation.
Through further investigation, it was discovered that Echo Transportation was hacked and a fraudulent company named Armstrong Trucking attempted to hire another transport service to pick up the inventory to take to California. The drivers for Butu Transportation were unaware it was a fake company and thought the orders were legitimate. No items were taken by the drivers of Butu Transportation and the managers of Whirlpool requested an information report be taken due to an increase in fraudulent shipping orders lately. I advised the management that they may want to start having the drivers physically show them the paperwork, to confirm they are not set to take the items to a different location than intended.

April 2, 2025 – At approximately 12:24 pm, I was dispatched to 401 Union Street, Dill Oil in reference to two missing lottery tickets.

After completing the audit, they found two lottery tickets that were unaccounted for. Morgan stated that they are unsure if the tickets went missing or were stolen. The two tickets were a $1.00 Holiday Cash and a $20.00 Merry Money. Morgan stated this incident occurred between December 2nd, 2024 and today.

Morgan stated she was going to check with her manager reference their video surveillance.

Morgan said if they are able to determine it was a theft after checking video, they will get back with me for an investigation.
