GREENVILLE – The Ohio Army National Guard 19D Cavalry Scout unit located in Greenville, OH under the command of Captain Dylan Salyers welcomed a large turnout for its open house and community outreach on Saturday to see their building, equipment and Soldiers that serve and train here in Darke County.

“We are Alpha Troop with CAP Squadron,” said Captain Dylan Salyers. “We are a bunch of Calvary Scouts Men with the Army National Guard for the State of Ohio.”

“We have an open house today for the local population to see more of what we do, the details in terms of what our job is for the State of Ohio,” Captain Saylers continued.  “We are a very mobile unit, we have deployed multiple times across the country stateside as well as overseas and the Middle East.     We’re a Cav Squadron full of a bunch of Cav Scouts. We have a wide range of weapon systems we use.”

As a Cavalry Scout, they are the eyes and ears of the armored division. They move ahead of its division, provide reconnaissance, and report vital information back to the unit’s commanding officer. They’re providing critical on-site intelligence that enables the officer to make informed decisions.
