GREENVILLE — A colorful new addition to downtown Greenville is inviting residents and visitors to smile, pose, and celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.
The Greenville Mural Committee unveiled a new “selfie station” on Friday, June 19, on the north wall of the building housing Loudy Office Machines. The installation features flowing red and white ribbons extending from the official America 250 logo, creating a photo frame where individuals, families, and groups can capture commemorative pictures.
“Celebrate America’s 250th with a smile,” said Greenville Mural Committee member Eileen Litchfield. “Come and use this great new backdrop to commemorate America’s 250th with this ‘selfie’ station, or go to any of the two power boxes the Greenville Mural Committee also put in.”
The selfie station complements the mural committee’s ongoing efforts to highlight the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration throughout the community.
“This is a huge year, with the 250th Celebration going on,” said Joe Wintrow of Wintrow Signs & Designs and a member of the mural committee. “We’ve done a couple of power box wraps with fireworks and the logo, and today we added a selfie station so everyone can take photos and celebrate.”
In addition to the selfie station, the committee recently completed decorative wraps on two downtown power boxes. Designed by Wintrow, the wraps feature fireworks and Darke County’s 250th anniversary logo. The boxes are located at the intersections of Harmon Avenue and Broadway and Ohio and Martin streets.
“We’re leaving a mark here in Greenville,” Wintrow said. “We’ve put a big footprint here in Greenville with these murals and now the 250th celebration makes it even better.”
The new installation builds upon the quilt-style mural originally installed at Loudy Office Machines in 2025. The mural consists of quilt squares designed by local residents Chloe Callahan, Karen Chronister, Jana Deeter, Pegi Deeter, Barb Deis, Kelsey Ervin, Kyle Kagey, Virginia Kagey, Linda Onkst, Jennifer Overholser, Brande Rice, CeCelia Rice, Stephanie Schieltz-Lowder, Alexandria Seas, Jean Selanders, Jane Tester, and Ethan Tutwiler.
After the artwork was submitted, the squares were scanned, digitized, and arranged into a coordinated design by Greenville Mural Committee board members Stephanie Schieltz-Lowder and Timothy Wells. The mural was then printed on vinyl and installed through donated labor from Wintrow Signs.
Litchfield said the committee’s mission extends beyond creating attractive public artwork.
“It’s a great committee,” she said. “We work to bring public art to the community and to enliven the town.”
Founded in 2009 as part of Main Street Greenville, the Greenville Mural Committee became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization earlier this year.
“The Mural Committee started in 2009 as a part of Main Street Greenville, and earlier this year the organization became a separate 501 (c) (3) non-profit, so we are our own entity now and have continuing plans to do murals around Greenville, not just downtown,” Litchfield said.
She also expressed appreciation to Loudy Office Machines for allowing the mural and selfie station to be placed on the building.
“Special thanks to Loudy’s Office Machines for the use of their wall,” Litchfield said.
The Greenville Mural Committee credits numerous organizations and individuals for helping make the mural and its latest addition possible, including the Darke County Foundation’s Ami McClurkin Community Fund, Ohio Arts Council, Darke County Endowment for the Arts, Fort GreeneVille D.A.R., Harry D. Stephens Memorial Inc., Rotary of Greenville, Wintrow Signs, Loudy Office Machines, Tim Wells Art Consulting, and Austin Spencer/Roof Maxx.
As the committee looks ahead to future projects, Litchfield said community support remains important.
“We love donations,” she said. “We have been fortunate to get local grants.”
