TROY – The Greenville Lady Wave went on the road and brought home a 7-2 MVL win over the Troy Lady Trojans.

“Great team win and a great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Coach Jerrod Newland. “Road win against a top-tier team.”

The Lady Wave logged all the runs needed for the win in the top of the first inning, putting five runs on the board beginning with a one-out single off the bat of Zoey Burns, an Ella Oswalt double to left, and a Lizzie Shaffer two-run single to center.

“First inning, Zoey hits, Ella doubles, and Lizzie hits to go up 2-0,” stated Newland. “Great way to come out aggressive.”

Greenville got its fourth consecutive hit with Kendall Cromwell singling to left, and Leah Force took a walk. A Rielynn Davidson line drive to right was played for an error, scoring Force and Crowell for a 4-0 LWSB advantage. Cloe Shuttleworth hit a two-out run-scoring single to left, giving the Lady Wave a 5-0 lead with the Lady Trojans coming to the plate.

The Lady Wave tacked on a third inning run with a Force one out walk, a Lily Brubaker single, an RBI fielder’s choice off the bat of Davidson, and a 6-0 advantage. Troy got on the board in the bottom of the third and fifth innings to cut Greenville’s lead to 6-2.

Greenville got one of the runs back in the top of the sixth, taking advantage of a Kylar Arnett two-out double and a Burns run-scoring infield single to close out scoring on the night, keeping the Lady Wave undefeated in MVL play on the season with a five-run victory.

The Lady Wave played solid defense, allowing just one error on the day.

“Amazing defensive plays today and fun road win,” Newland stated. “Kylar Arnett, Leah Force, and Lily Brubaker made 10 to 12 plays, and Zoey Burns saved three or four at first base.”

“Zoey Burns and Kylar Arnett showed up big and okayed hard,” Newland noted, “and showed the young kids how to compete and win.”

Oswalt went the distance on the mound, pitching 7.0 solid innings, allowing 2 earned runs on six hits, one walk, and five strikeouts to earn the win.
