GREENVILLE – Veteran Hall of Fame Lady Wave coach Jerrod Newland used the “leaving the base too soon” early and often with all 20 players seeing action in keeping the team’s 12-0 and 14-1 MVL doubleheader victories respectable.
“Great day for Lady Wave Softball – fun stuff,” said Lady Wave coach Jerrod Newland following the sweep. “Two games with Xenia and we played 20 kids in both games and two wins.”
In the opening game, Greenville jumped out to an easy first-inning 8-0 lead with bases loaded giving Coach Newland an opportunity to use the “leaving the base too soon” to bring the inning to a close. Back-to-back home runs off the bats of Mahayla Cook, her 9th MVL leading homer of the season and Ella McLear highlighted the opening inning.
The Lady Wave went on to score 3 runs in the second and a run in the third earning the opening game conference win.
Morgan Thompson went the distance on the mound for the Lady Wave tossing 5.0 shutout innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 walk while striking out 6 batters.
Twelve Lady Wave collected hits in the opening game led with Cook going 1-1 with a home run, 2 RBIs, and a run scored and McLear going 1-1 with a home run, a walk, 2 RBIs, and a run scored.

GREENVILLE – Game No. 2 had the Lady Wave taking a 5-0 lead after one inning of play in what looked more like a LWSB JV lineup and Coach Newland continuing the use “leaving the base too soon” … once again keeping the game respectable.
The Lady Wave put 3 runs on the board in the second, third, and fourth innings in earning the conference win.
“Halfway through the season, we have 15 games in now sitting 11-4,”Newland said. “Good for the kids and just good stuff.”
Greenville freshman Liz Shaffer went the distance pitching 5.0 innings, allowing 1 run, 1 hit, and 2 walks while sticking out 11 Lady Buccaneers.
“Morgan and Liz did a great job back there pitching and made a few plays and hit the ball fairly square,” Coach Newland stated. “More importantly everybody is out here having fun playing, got everybody in and good stuff for the program and the kids.”
Freshman Ryelynn Davidson was 2-2 with a double, 3 RBIs and a run; Addie Burke 1-1, a walk, 2 RBIs, 1 run; Jaelyn Christman 1-2, 1 RBI, 1 run; Morgan Thompson 1-1, Kylar Arnett 1-1; Cloe Shuttleworth 1-2, 1 RBI; Zoey Burns 1-2; Marissa Hicks 1-1, and a walk; Kendall Cromwell 1-1, a walk, 1 RBI, 1 run; Ella McLear 1-2 (double), 1 run; Carlee Yundt 1-1, 1 run; Lily Brubaker 2 walks, 1 RBI, 2 runs; Clair Royer 2 runs; Haleigh McDermitt, a walk and a hit batsman, 1 RBI; Skylar Bryson 2 walks, 1 RBI, 2 runs; Savannah Leach 1 walk, 1 RBI, 1 run and Maddie Hutchens 2 walks, 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Eleven Lady Wave had hits in game two.
The Lady Wave was flawless on the night playing error-free ball in both games of the twin bill.
