GREENVILLE – The Greenville JV defeated the visiting Sidney Lady Yellow Jackets 29-24 in MVL play to open 2024-2025 conference action.

“Our girls played really hard tonight,” said Greenville JV coach Craig Riethman. “We are a very young team with a lot of freshmen and a couple of sophomores. We are still learning a lot, but we play so hard defensively that if we continue to compete hard defensively, we will be in every game. The offensive things we will have to figure out as we go.”

The Lady Wave bolted out to an 11-2 first-quarter advantage led by Rielynn Davidson’s five points, including a three-pointer and Mack Legenzoff’s four points in the paint.

“We did a nice job of spreading things out, looking opposite, attacking gaps, and kicking,” Riethman noted. “Mack did a nice job inside, making some really strong post moves. She has come around a lot since last year.”

Coach Riethman continued to shuttle players in and out, getting a look at the new season. The Lady Jackets took quarter No. Two 8-4 sent the teams to the break, with Greenville holding a 15-10 halftime lead.

“I am very fortunate this year because I can sub three or four at a time, and I am still going to have three or four different girls getting on the floor,” Riethman stated. “They all want to be out there and work their tails off. They do a nice job together.”

Sidney continued to battle back in the third, outscoring Greenville 12-7, sending the game to the fourth tied at 22-22 apiece.

“I don’t think the girls were too concerned about the score at all,” Riethman said. “They were more concerned about doing their job and doing things right.”

The Lady Wave took charge in the fourth period outscoring the visitors 7-2 paced by Leah Force’s five points for the win.

“Leah Force did a great job getting to the basket,” said Coach Riethman. “Aubrey Baumagardner comes down from varsity a little bit, and she gives us such a great spark. Rielynn Davidson did a nice job from the line; she was doing a nice job getting to the basket, but overall, it was a great team effort to start off the year.”
