GREENVILLE – The Greenville junior varsity boys basketball team scored another win, defeating the visiting Eaton Eagles 45-41 in non-conference action.

“It was a good team effort,” said Greenville JV coach Jim Gable. “Cullen Schmidt, our freshman, had a really good game with 15 points, and Ethan Flatter is playing better every game. He’s getting a lot of confidence. He’s been scoring well the last two games, he’s been one of our leading scorers – he played a good game.”

Eaton took the opening quarter 12-9, with Greenville getting four Cullen Schmidt points, a JiJi Jim 3-pointer, and a bucket from Titus Eberwein.

Ethan Flatter led Greenville with nine second-quarter points, including a triple and 2-2 at the line. Isaac Kerg accounted for four points, Schmidt three, and Jim two points, giving the Wave an 18-12 period, sending the teams to the break with Greenville leading 27-24.

Eaton took period No. 3 by a 7-6 score, with Schmidt accounting for all six Wave points, including 2-2 at the charity stripe, giving Greenville a slim 33-31 lead with three periods in the book.

The Green Wave earned the win, outpacing Eaton 12-10 in the fourth. Flatter and Eberwein each scored four points, and Schmidt and Jim each accounted for a basket rounding out scoring on the night.

“Ji Ji came off the bench and played well; he hit a three and a couple of layups,” Gable noted. “Titus played a pretty good game, and I got two quarters from Isaac Kerg and Mike McMahon, which they always give me one hundred percent when they’re in there, and I appreciate what they do.”

Greenville freshman Cullen Schmidt paced the Wave with 15 points, including 7-10 at the free-throw line, scoring four in the first quarter, three in the second, six in the third, and two in the final period. GHS junior Ethan Flatter added 13 points for the Wave.

With seven seniors on the Wave varsity team, the 2025-2026 team will look much different than the current varsity squad.

“There are a couple of juniors playing with me,” Gable said of Greenville’s future. “Next year, you’re going to have a lot of depth at the guard position, and then you throw Cullen Schmidt with Johnny Barr and David Conway and Landon Noble backing them up, you will have a pretty deep team next year.”
