On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, members Emma Stith, Taylor Trissel, Allison Francis, and Jayden Hicks competed at the County FFA Public Speaking contest held at Preble Shawnee High School.

Emma is a freshman and competed in the FFA Creed speaking contest. The FFA Creed consists of a student memorizing the six lines of the FFA Creed and presenting it to a panel of judges. This contest is designed to develop leadership and the ability to appear before a group. Participants then answer a series of questions about the FFA Creed. Members participating are evaluated on their presentation, memorization, and response to questions.

This contest is only open to first-year members. Miss Stith did an outstanding job representing Greenville FFA and placed 1st in the contest and will represent Greenville at the district contest. Congratulations Emma!

Taylor is a sophomore and represented Greenville in the Beginning Prepared contest, where she had to write her own speech on an agriculture topic, and it had to be between five and seven minutes in length. She then had to memorize her speech and present it to a panel of judges. Afterward, she was asked questions pertaining to her speech. Taylor placed 2nd and will move on to compete at the district contest. Congratulations Taylor!

Allison, a sophomore, and Jayden, a senior, competed in the Extemporaneous speaking contest. Jayden and Allison selected a title that their speeches had to focus on and had thirty minutes to research, prepare a four to six-minute speech, and then present it to a panel of judges. After presenting their speeches, they were asked questions pertaining to the topic and speech. The contest is designed to stimulate the interest of the FFA members in agriculture and leadership by giving them an opportunity to speak before an audience. Jayden placed third.

Congratulations to all members for their participation in the public speaking contest, and good luck to Taylor and Emma at the district contest.
