GREENVILLE – The Greenville varsity boys tennis team earned a Senior Night non-conference victory over the visiting St. Marys Roughriders 3-2, wrapping up their regular dual match play season, finishing with an excellent 16-3 season.
Greenville honored three seniors before the match: Mason Pierri, Avery Yount, and Kaitlin Combs.
“Proud of this team, finishing the season off the way they did,” said Greenville coach Sam Bowers. “Accomplished a lot of regular-season goals. Proud of these seniors Mason Pierri, Avery Yount, and Kaitlin Combs, we celebrated tonight, a bunch of winners on and off the court. They built this program and went out with a great season, which was backed up by hard work. Can’t wait to watch them all succeed in life and adulthood.
Winning for Greenville included brothers Mason Pierri and Hudson Pierri in singles matches and then the doubles teams of Kaitlin Combs / Silas Lacey.
“Mason is simply one of the best tennis players to come through Greenville,” Coach Bowers said. “He takes tennis seriously, and he has been an anchor at 1st singles for us for three years. He’s pursuing some Greenville records himself to end his high school career.”
“Kaitlin has competed in boys tennis as a girl all four years and is a three-year letter winner,” Bowers said. ”She’s competitive and has been very versatile for us over those three years, playing a lot of positions.
“Avery is a career 2nd doubles wins record holder and spent his career playing different doubles spots,” stated Bowers. “He has succeeded wherever he has played..”
