GREENVILLE – The Green Wave baseball team dropped a 7-1 conference game to the visiting Troy Trojans.
“Troy is always good, they’re always a solid ball club,” said Greenville coach Adam Eberwein. “Every season they reload.”
Troy scored four runs in the top of the first and tacked on two runs in the top of the third to lead 6-0 after 3 three innings of play.
“We had a rough first inning,” Eberwein noted. “We just weren’t playing very clean baseball, which unfortunately defined the rest of the game. We struggled to find our rhythm in the game and couldn’t recover from that.”
Greenville plated its lone run of the game, taking advantage of Troy’s only error. A groundout and a fielder’s choice followed, moving Isaac Kerg to third with one down. A Lane Hocker RBI groundout to first had the Wave on the board.
“We continued to battle,” Coach Eberwein said. “We gave ourselves opportunities, but once we got on base, it fizzled out from there.”
Greenville was saddled with four errors while Troy had one error on the day.
“Braeden Wills started the game today and struggled to locate a little bit at the beginning of the game, and when they did put the ball in play, we could get outs for him,” Eberwein stated. Sometimes, it just happens. Our guys are giving everything they have, and our attitudes are where they need to be.”
Adam Edwards pitched 4.1 innings allowing no earned runs on 3 hits 1 walk and 1 strikeout. Braeden Wills tossed 2.2 innings surrendering 3 earned runs, 2 hits, and 4 walks while striking out 3.
Edwards, Kerg, and Owen Mcgreevey each had a single for Greenville.
