GREENVILLE – The Greenville varsity boys baseball team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 5-4 Monday night MVL win over the visiting Fairborn Skyhawks.
“We had our one inning where we were able to put the bats together at the right time and get some timely hits where we were able to score when we had guys in scoring position,” said Greenville coach, Adam Eberwein. “We had some really solid hits today.”

The Green Wave scored all the runs needed for the win in the bottom of the third inning taking a 5-0 lead that would hold up for the win.
“You can get a lot of base hits but if you’re not getting base hits when you have guys in scoring position it doesn’t make a whole lot of difference,” Eberwein noted. “That was key to the one inning when we had guys in scoring position we were putting the ball in play.”

Fairborn battled back to plate 2 runs in the top of the fourth, 1-run in the fifth and a fourth run in the top of the seventh.
Bryce Blumenstock picked up the win for Greenville tossing the first 4.2 innings before giving way to Brock Short to close out the night over the final 2.1 innings.

Short had two defensive gems from the pitching mound keeping the visitors off the board to secure the win.
“When he’s out there he’s going to give everything he’s got,” Eberwein said of Short. “That was one hundred percent hustle play and then the kid popped up a bunt earlier and he runs up and makes a play on that and was able to get a double play out of it.”

Brock paced the Wave at the plate going 2-3 with 2-RBIs and a run scored; AJ Shaffer went 1-3 with a RBI and a run; Jackson Eberwein hit a double and scored a run; Owen Mcgreevey went 1-2, a hit batsman and a RBI; Bryce Blumenstock knocked a single; Avery Ernst a walk and a run; Breaden Wills a RBI and a run and Ricky Heidrich scored a run.
