GREENVILLE — Greenville City Schools recognized the accomplishments, dedication, and hard work of its student-athletes during the 2025-2026 Spring Sports Awards Program held Tuesday evening at Greenville Senior High School.

Greenville Athletic Director Aaron Shaffer welcomed Green Wave student-athletes, family members, coaches, supporters, and community members to the annual celebration honoring the school’s spring sports participants.

Shaffer opened the evening by expressing appreciation to everyone who helped make the athletic programs successful throughout the school year. He thanked the Green Wave spring athletes for their commitment and effort, as well as the middle school and high school coaching staffs, parents, the Greenville Athletic Booster Club, concession stand coordinator Michelle Miller, Booster parent representatives, loyal Green and White supporters, and local businesses that contributed to the programs.

Reflecting on his years working with student-athletes, Shaffer spoke about the unique opportunity athletics provides to see students develop beyond the classroom setting.

“When you are around the student athletes in a little less formal atmosphere than a classroom or school, you get to see a side of kids that you don’t always get to see when you are a teacher or you’re in a classroom environment,” said veteran Greenville Athletic Director Aaron Shaffer. “There are a lot of great athletes walking around here tonight that this is their last sports awards, not spring sports awards, sports awards in high school.”

Shaffer noted the evening was both a celebration and a reminder of how quickly student-athletes progress through their high school careers.

“It is nice to celebrate their accomplishments but it is bitter sweet knowing they will be moving on,” said Shaffer. “But the beauty of that too is we know there is another whole group of them coming from the middle school to the high school next year so you have to appreciate the time you have because the time runs short and everybody’s clock is ticking so the time you have you have to appreciate it.”

The annual Spring Sports Awards Program serves as an opportunity for Greenville City Schools to recognize the achievements of Green Wave athletes while also thanking the coaches, families, volunteers, and community members whose support helps make the school’s athletic programs successful.

As another school year draws to a close, the ceremony honored both the accomplishments of graduating seniors preparing for their next chapter and the promise of the next generation of Green Wave athletes who will soon take their place on Greenville’s athletic fields, courts, and tracks.
