FAIRBORN – The Greenville Lady Wave made it back-to-back run-rule wins over Fairborn with a 13-0 Miami Valley League road victory Friday night, following up Monday’s 10-0 win over the Lady Skyhawks.
“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Proud of the kids and excited to get another road win.”
Greenville broke through in the top of the second inning to take control early. Jordyn McMullen led off with a double to left, Rielynn Davidson followed with a single to center, and Kara Blumenstock delivered an RBI double to left. Bri Klosterman added an RBI infield single, and Leah Force capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to give the Lady Wave a 3-0 lead.
The Lady Wave blew the game open at the top of the fourth.
Davidson started the inning with a solo home run to center field, and Greenville went on to score six runs on six hits in the frame for a 9-0 advantage. Ella Oswalt was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run, and Lizzie Shaffer highlighted the inning with a double that drove in four runs.
Greenville added four more runs in the fifth inning to finish off the five-inning run-rule win.
The Lady Wave pounded out 13 hits in the contest and played clean defense behind junior pitcher Lizzie Shaffer, who earned the win. Shaffer allowed just one hit over five shutout innings while striking out six and walking three.
“We played very crisp and fast,” Newland said. “Kids had some fun and Lizzie threw a gem tonight.”
Newland also praised Greenville’s defensive effort, especially sophomore center fielder Brianna Klosterman.
“Hit it very square and Brianna Klosterman ran down three to four great-great plays in centerfield,” said Newland.
McMullen and Davidson each had three hits to lead Greenville at the plate. Shaffer drove in three runs, while Klosterman, Blumenstock, and Kendall Cromwell each added two hits.
With the win, Greenville improved to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in MVL play. The Lady Wave have now outscored opponents 99-19 this season, with six of their eight wins coming by run rule.
Greenville will face a stiff test Saturday, traveling to Centerville for games against perennial big-school powerhouses Lebanon at 2 p.m. and Centerville at 4 p.m.
“Big day tomorrow,” Newland said. “We play at 2 p.m. vs Lebanon and 4 p.m. vs Centerville at Centerville.”
