CAMDEN – The Green Wave varsity boys baseball team defeated the home-standing Preble Shawnee Arrows 6-2 in a Friday night non-conference matchup.
“It was a beautiful day for baseball and a beautiful day for a Wave win,” said Greenville coach Adam Eberwein.
“It was nice to see us hit coming off the loss from Wednesday,” Eberwein added. “Cole Oswalt pitched a very efficient complete game. He had good command, and his offspeed was very effective. Cole had multiple one-pitch batters.”
Greenville opened the night’s scoring with a run-scoring single off the bat of Bryce Blumenstock and took a 2-0 lead with the Arrows coming to the plate. Preble Shawnee answered with a run in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 Wave lead after three complete.
The Wave plated 2 runs in the top of the fourth and the top of the sixth sending the game to the seventh inning with Greenville holding a 6-1 advantage.
The Arrows plated a run in the bottom of the seventh giving the Greenville a 6-2 win over the Preble County school.
“Defensively we played a fairly clean ballgame,” Coach Eberwein stated. “Offensively we did hit the ball well today, but still left too many runners on base in scoring positions.”
Oswalt pitched a complete game 4 hitter allowing 1 earned run, and 1 walk while striking out 6 Arrows.
Greenville outhit Preble Shawnee 10-4, the Wave committed 2 errors, and Preble Shawnee had 4 errors.
Greenville shortstop Adam Edwards was 2-3 including a double, a walk, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Trevor Mardin went 2-4; Carson Good a double to go 1-2, a walk, 2 runs; Owen Mcgreevey 1-4, a run; Quentin Garner 2-3, a run; Blumenstock 1-4, 1 RBI; Isaac Kerg 1-4; Titus Eberwein 2 walks.
With the win, Greenville improves to 2-1 on the season.
