GREENVILLE – Greenville Police Chief Ryan Benge states, “Since becoming Chief of Police just over a year ago, my administration and I have made it a top priority to build meaningful, positive relationships with all members of the Greenville community. In doing so, we’ve recognized a particular need to better connect with our most vulnerable populations—including at-risk youth, individuals with developmental disabilities, and our elderly residents.”
“We firmly believe that our youth are the future of Greenville. By engaging with them early and often, we can provide guidance, support, and opportunities that empower them to lead successful lives. Over the past year, we’ve participated in more than 15 community events, each one providing us the chance to meet people where they are, listen to their concerns, and build trust,” Chief Benge added.
“Several months ago, Coach Heather from Impactful Ripples Inc. reached out to me and my leadership team to discuss possible joint initiatives aimed at helping those in our community who are facing challenges. One of the results of that conversation is our “You Matter” bracelet campaign. These bracelets, paired with resource cards tailored specifically for adults and children, are designed to let people know that they are seen, heard, and supported. Each card includes information on local resources available to individuals going through a difficult time,” the Chief explained.
By showing people that they matter—and providing them with tools and options—we hope to foster lasting, positive connections across Greenville. Our ultimate goal is to create a safer, more compassionate, and united community for everyone,” Chief Benge concluded.
