PIQUA – With the support of the Greenville City Schools Administration, Greenville Athletic Boosters, an anonymous donor, GHS Principal Stan Hughes, and many more, a Spirit Bus with 41 Greenville Senior High School students on board made the Friday night trip to Piqua to support the Green Wave in an MVL football matchup with the Piqua Indians.
“We had kids ask if we could have a Spirit Bus,” said Hughes. “The Administration is super supportive of that, the Athletic Boosters Club paid for the bus and the driver. We had an anonymous donor donate all the tickets for kids to come on the bus.”
Mr. Hughes told the students that if they filled the Spirit Bus, he would buy pizza for all of them. After learning of the pizza donation, others stepped up to volunteer to pay for the free pizza for the students.
“Then I had people saying they would pay for the pizza, so then we had donors for pizza, we had donors for the tickets, and the Athletic Booster donated so the kids could go on the Spirit Bus, so these kids, 41 of them, got here for free and had food.”
Hughes was pleased with the show of appreciation and support for the Green Wave football team, which was coming off a 22-game losing skid and had just won its first two games of the 2025 season under new head coach Steve Channell.
“People are so excited,” Hughes stated. “There have been a lot of positive comments out there in the community about putting together a Spirit Bus and kids getting on there and kids being excited.”
“Hopefully we can continue to move forward with the positive things that are happening in our community and in our building because there are a lot of really good positive things that are happening out there,” Mr. Hughes concluded.
