GREENVILLE – The Greenville Girls Softball Association (GGSA) is preparing for another active and promising season of youth softball at Stebbins Field, highlighted by strong participation, facility improvements, and continued community support.
Former GGSA president Eric Fellers has returned to lead the organization after several years away, bringing experience and enthusiasm back to the role. Fellers, along with his wife Stacy, is the parent of Lady Wave Softball alumni twins Bri and Saige Fellers, now seniors at Anderson University.
“They’re seniors this year,” said Fellers. “Graduating with their four-year nursing degree in May.”
The association will host its 54th Annual Opening Day on May 2, officially kicking off the 2026 season.
“We have a couple of smaller Saturday and Sunday tournaments,” said Fellers. “We will have our rec league starting up in May with Opening Day on May 2nd, and then our Fall Ball in the fall.”
In addition to league play, GGSA will once again welcome teams from across the region for tournament competition. The organization currently has seven tournaments scheduled, including one of its premier events.
“Obviously, the high school season is underway at Lady Wave Stadium,” Fellers noted. “We have seven tournaments scheduled right now. Our Eighth Annual GGSA Summer Smackdown tournament in June—we have 50 teams already registered for it, so it’s sold out. That will be a big boost to the community that weekend.”
Beyond the action on the field, GGSA continues to invest in its facilities to enhance the experience for players and families. Recent improvements include the installation of a new playground and upgrades to field infrastructure.
“We installed our new playground right at the end of last year, right before fall ball,” said Fellers. “We have the new playground out there. The old one we’re going to remove and get it out of the way.”
The association has also focused on maintaining and restoring field conditions after weather-related wear in recent seasons.
“We’re working towards getting some other little things accomplished, trying to get the fields back in shape from the last couple of years,” Fellers said. “The weather has done some damage to them, but basically, the things we have done this year are just general maintenance, like new nets we needed.”
Safety and visibility improvements were made to the backstop as well.
“We made our backstop higher and wider—22 feet high as opposed to the 20-foot, and then we went six more feet wide to get it to cover a little bit better,” Fellers added.
Another noticeable upgrade came in the form of a refreshed scoreboard at Lady Wave Stadium.
“Joe Wintrow was a big help getting that accomplished and getting that wrapped for us and making it look new again,” said Fellers. “It looks great.”
Fellers emphasized that the continued success of GGSA is rooted in strong community backing, from local businesses to families who support the program year after year.
“Any time you go to people, and you start talking softball, their eyes light up,” said Fellers. “It’s always nice to go talk to people when you’re getting ready to do projects. People want to support the girls and help with things, whether it’s sponsoring teams or helping with equipment that we might need.”
“People in this community really step up for everything—not just softball, but for everything that happens in Greenville,” he added.
As the new season approaches, Fellers is hopeful families will once again pack the stands and enjoy the experience.
“Thanks to all the businesses that help us throughout the year,” he said. “We appreciate that, and hopefully parents and grandparents come out and have fun this year with their kids.”
