GREENVILLE – Greenville Citizens Baseball League (GCBL) held its first major tournament of the 2025 season, the 15th Annual Summer Kickoff Bash, May 16th-18th at the organization’s Sater Heights Ballpark.

“Everybody showed up, and fans have come out,” said GCBL Commissioner Brent Short. “Concessions were busy and everything went very well.”

Most Friday night games were completed before rains came through the area, halting play late in the evening. Rain returned early Saturday morning, bringing the GCBL board and helpers to the park to get the diamonds in playing condition.

“Just a few games got cut short Friday night, but all the other games scheduled got played,” Short noted. “We got some rain early Saturday morning, around 1 a.m. to 2 a.m. We were out here at 6 a.m. putting material on the diamonds, preparing the best we could to get games started at eight o’clock.”

GCBL is known throughout the area for its concession stands and reasonable pricing.

“I have heard quite a few fans say the food is really good,” said Short. “I’ve heard the prices are reasonable, and they keep coming back. The grill didn’t stop since 8 a.m.”

An excellent GCBL Board keeps the park in tip-top shape and manages the finances well, making it one of the nicer ballparks in the area.

“We seem to be in the green in a lot of areas,” Short stated. “That is not my doing; that is the board and everybody involved with it helping us get that done.”

“I appreciate everybody coming out and everyone that helped make this happen,” added Short. “Chelsea Wright is our tournament director and, in her first year, is doing a great job, especially with the rainout games. That is tough to go home and make a schedule. I appreciate everyone involved at GCBL who makes this thing run.”
