GREENVILLE – The Greenville Citizens Baseball League (GCBL) held opening day ceremonies for the 2023 season Saturday morning at Sater Heights Park with Steve Brinley throwing out the first pitch.

Brinley was responsible for the naming of Sater Heights Park in 1962 after winning a local drawing.
“When Steve lived on Central Avenue growing up he went to the Skating rink and his mother told him maybe you should call it Sater,” said GCBL Commissioner, Ron Kerg. “He said the skating rink is below the diamonds where Fred Coppock was going to put the diamonds so he said, Sater Heights because it’s above the skating rink – so that is where they come up with Sater Heights Ball Park.”
“Steve has 55 years as painter in Greenville area,” Kerg stated. “He is a wonderful man, very supportive of all Greenville activities so we honored Steve with throwing out our first pitch of the season.”

Kerg noted the GCBL will be hosting three major tournaments for the upcoming season.
13th Annual Summer Kick-Off Bash | May 19-21
7th Annual Tyler Kuhn Memorial | June 9-11
36th Annual Annie Oakley Classic | July 7-9
“We have a great board,” Kerg said. “Our baseball diamonds are in great shape.”
