GREENVILLE—The Greenville Citizens Baseball League (GCBL) held its 37th Annual Annie Oakley Classic Baseball Tournament, with 33 teams taking to the Sater Heights diamonds.
“It’s the grandad of them all,” said tournament director Keith Heidrich. “It’s a great tradition. Generations have been coming here for the same tournament and hearing stories. It’s a neat tournament that has been going on for a very long time.”
GCBL is known for its excellent concession stand, food, and drinks, which are available to all in attendance under the direction of Robbie Jones.
“We have great food,” Heidrich said. “Robbie Jones is doing a great job in our concession stand, trying something new, going back to those walking tacos. The concession stand we have here is amazing for a baseball tournament. It’s pretty impressive.”
The GCBL Board of Directors, along with many volunteers, make the Annie Oakley Classic Tournament, the Summer Kick-Off Bash, and the Tyler Kuhn Memorial great events year in and year out.
“We have amazing help, the guys that help get these diamonds ready for the tournaments,” Heidrich noted. “Matt Brinley, Ron Kerg, Isaac Kerg, a Greenville varsity baseball player, has been coming down here helping. It’s nice to have those varsity players down here passing that tradition along – so many good members helping out down here.”
