PIQUA – Greenville seniors Kendall Cromwell and Lily Brubaker earned their 100th career varsity fast pitch softball win while freshman Hallee Fourman drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Lady Wave past Piqua 13-0 in a five-inning Miami Valley League run-rule win.
Fourman homered to center field in the third inning, doubled in the first, and singled in the fourth to pace an 18-hit Greenville attack.
Greenville scored eight runs in the top of the first inning. Ella Oswalt lined a one-out single to left before Lizzie Shaffer blasted a two-run home run over the centerfield fence.
“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Came out on a mission, Ella gets a hit and boom, Lizzie off the scoreboard and never looked back.”
Rielynn Davidson, Kara Blumenstock, and Lily Brubaker followed with consecutive run-scoring singles. Fourman added an RBI double, and Oswalt came back around with a two-run single to right, giving Greenville an 8-0 lead before Piqua came to the plate.
With two outs in the top of the third, Brubaker singled to center before Fourman crushed a two-run homer to center for a 10-0 Lady Wave lead.
“Fourman hits it out off the scoreboard and stroked it solid,” Newland said.
Greenville added three runs in the fourth. Cromwell and Davidson singled, Blumenstock added an RBI single, Brubaker singled, Fourman drove in another run with a base hit, and Leah Force added an RBI single to close out the scoring.
The win came after Greenville defeated Piqua 3-1 on Wednesday night at Lady Wave Stadium.
“Nice to sweep Piqua and move on,” said Newland.
Oswalt earned the shutout win, allowing four hits over five innings while striking out nine and walking none.
“Ella threw great,” Newland said. “Great day and Ella and Denny were on.”
Brubaker, Force, and Fourman each collected three hits for Greenville. Davidson, Oswalt, Blumenstock, and Cromwell each had two hits.
With the win, Greenville improves to 18-1 overall and 12-0 in MVL play. The Lady Wave seniors move to 100-14 in their varsity careers.
Greenville is scheduled for four games next week: Monday at West Carrollton, Tuesday at Centerville, Wednesday at home with West Carrollton, and Friday at home with Troy.
Troy stands at 18-0 overall and 12-0 in the MVL.
“Friday at home for the first showdown,” Newland concluded.
