GREENVILLE – The Fort GreeneVille Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has received an official commendation from the House of Representatives of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio following the chapter’s recognition at the 2026 Continental Congress in Washington, D.C.

The Fort GreeneVille DAR has served as a longtime “Vietnam War Commemorative Partner,” earning national recognition for its extensive efforts to honor Vietnam veterans and their families through commemorative programs, including highway and bridge dedications.

Although the national Vietnam War Commemoration Commission has concluded its work, Fort GreeneVille DAR leaders say their commitment remains unchanged.

“Although the commission has ended, it doesn’t end for Fort Greenville Chapter DAR,” said Debbie Nisonger. “We will be honoring Vietnam veterans and their families well into the future.”

The official Ohio House of Representatives commendation, signed by Ohio House District 84 Representative Angela N. King and Ohio Speaker of the House Matt Huffman, reads:

“On behalf of the members of the House of Representatives of the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, we are pleased to commend the Fort Greeneville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on being recognized at the 2026 Continental Congress in Washington, D.C.

In being distinguished for its outstanding commemorative events, including its highway and bridge dedications, the Fort GreeneVille DAR has been praised as one of the area’s most reputable organizations, and congratulations are certainly in order. Over the years, the group has demonstrated exceptional foresight and cooperation, and we applaud it on being honored at the annual national event with an award that celebrates its civic initiative and commitment to excellence.

All those associated with the Fort GreeneVille DAR have shown the potential of individuals to have a positive effect on the quality of life in our society, and they have gained the esteem and appreciation of the entire community. Indeed, their dedicated efforts to support historic preservation, education, and patriotism in an effort to provide equality, justice, and humanity for all Americans are the hallmark of concerned and responsible citizenship.

Thus, with genuine pleasure, we salute the Fort GreeneVille Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on its recent accolade and salute its members as fine Ohioans.”

Nisonger said the recognition carries significance far beyond the organization itself.

“This citation represents far more than an honor for the Fort GreeneVille DAR,” Nisonger concluded. “It is a lasting tribute to the Vietnam servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice and to the families who have carried that loss for so many years.”

The national recognition at the Continental Congress and the subsequent commendation from the Ohio House of Representatives underscore the Fort GreeneVille DAR’s continuing commitment to preserving history, promoting patriotism, and ensuring the sacrifices of America’s Vietnam veterans and their families are remembered by future generations.
