GREENVILLE – The Fort GreeneVille DAR Chapter received several awards during the annual George Washington’s Birthday Luncheon sponsored by the local Richard Montgomery Chapter Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). SAR Chapter President Lee Emrick recognized the Fort GreeneVille DAR for two recent America-250 events the two chapters teamed up to hold.
The DAR held the America 250 PBS American Constitution Movie Premier and later assisted in organizing the America 250 Ohio Heritage Tree Dedication (with Darke County Parks) while asking the SAR Color Guard to assist in both events. The two organizations worked well together. Emrick presented the DAR chapter with two America-250 streamers in appreciation of asking the SAR to join them in their programs.
Debbie Nisonger, Regent of the Fort GreeneVille DAR Chapter, was also recognized individually. She was presented with a Martha Washington medal by Emrick and Steve Kaplan, past-president of the Ohio SAR. Nisonger received the award for her continuing successful efforts in creating new service programs for her DAR Chapter to perform and sharing those programs with the local SAR members. In addition to the America-250 events, the two chapters annually work together to teach American history lessons at a local school and assist with Bears Mill’s Pioneer Days activities.
Membership in the DAR and SAR chapters is composed of descendants of Patriots of the Revolutionary War and the founding of the United States. The goals of both organizations are patriotic, historical, and educational in nature.
