DAYTON – Former local youth softball coach, Matthew A. Shoffstall (36) of Greenville, was recently sentenced to serve 25 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges of attempting to force some of the young female players to send him nude pictures of themselves online.
Shoffstall was indicted on May 28 by a federal grand jury on several felony counts, including Receiving Child Pornography, Distribution of Child Pornography, Possession of Child Pornography, Interstate Threats (extortion) and Attempted Tampering with Evidence. The offenses are said to have occurred from March 6, 2024, through April 5, 2024.
Shoffstall was arrested in April 2024 by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office. He reportedly tried to delete the evidence prior to his arrest.
According to Darke County Assistant Prosecutor Deborah S. Quigley, during the course of the investigation, there was just so much evidence that the case needed to be handled at a federal level.
Upon the completion of his prison sentence, Shoffstall will be required to register as a Tier III sex offender every 90 days for the remainder of his life.
