PITSBURG – The Franklin Monroe Lady Jets volleyball program under the direction of head coach Angie Filbrun completed its annual youth volleyball camp with the largest number of campers attending to date.

“This is our biggest one yet,“ said Filbrun. “We had a few girls from other schools but pretty much all FM girls,”

The camp is intended to get the girls in the gym while getting them excited about the game of volleyball.

“We are not perfecting skills in just a couple days but we are getting them excited to be in the gym and maybe play the game someday,” Filbrun stated.

The three day camp taught basic passing, setting and serving skills. “We even got into a little bit of hitting of which of course they loved,” noted Filbrun.

Coach Filbrun was assisted by her high school coaching staff along with the high school volleyball players.

“I have an excellent coaching staff, my coaching staff and my high school girls were incredible this week,” she said. “Just to watch them with those younger girls – those younger girls look up to them more than they realize. Just to watch them on the floor, to teach and to grow as players themselves it is very rewarding.”

Four major awards were presented by Coach Filbrun at the close of the camp including two Jet Awards and two MVP awards.

The Franklin Monroe volleyball program will have its Second Annual Family Fun Night, September 8, 2023 when the Lady Jets host the Newton Lady Indians in a WOAC showdown.

“We don’t have football so it’s our Friday Night Lights,” Filbrun stated. “We want to get people in the gym, getting them excited and cheering for our girls, big community event trying to get people here to see what we are doing in the gym.”
