PLEASANT HILL – Arcanum used a fast start and steady production throughout the lineup to earn a 10-3 non-conference varsity softball win over Versailles, extending the Lady Trojans’ winning streak to five games.

“We know what we have, we’re playing one game at a time,” said Arcanum coach Mike Morris. “Things are starting to come around where everybody is participating, everybody is doing something. We’re not a deep bench, but everybody is getting in the games, and everyone is helping us win games right now.”

Arcanum wasted little time taking control, plating five runs in the top of the first inning to grab a 5-0 lead. Cam Garbig tripled home a run, Claire Hein added an RBI single, Ashlyn Tegtmeyer drew a bases-loaded walk, and Ella Flatter capped the frame with a two-run single.

“We had chances to put that game away early, and we didn’t do it, so we’re getting there,” Morris said. “We’ve won five in a row now, so hopefully we keep this thing rolling.”

Versailles coach Tatyana Cotrell said the opening inning proved costly for the Lady Tigers.

“We had a couple of errors in that first inning that killed the run of having a good game,” said Cotrell. “We definitely had a few mental errors that could have helped us get out in that first inning.”

Arcanum added to its lead in the second when Maddy Noe blasted a solo home run to left field. The Lady Trojans struck again in the fourth on another solo shot to left, this time off the bat of Jordyn Garbig.

“I didn’t think anybody was going to hit a homerun the way the wind was blowing in, and this field is deep,” Morris said. “It’s good to see that Maddie and Jordyn each got one today.”

Cam Garbig picked up the win in the circle for Arcanum, allowing four hits and one run over four innings while walking none and striking out none. Jalyn McEldowney took the loss for Versailles after surrendering nine runs, five earned, on eight hits over four innings while walking four.

Arcanum finished with 11 hits on the day, with Flatter turning in a huge performance from the No. 9 spot in the order. The center fielder went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs. Jordyn Garbig also showed patience at the plate with two walks as the Lady Trojans worked five free passes overall.

Versailles was led offensively by Miley Stover and Alexis Francis, who each collected two hits. Stover finished 2-for-4 and drove in one run for the Lady Tigers.

“We were making contact,” Cotrell said. “We had too many strikeouts, which I will take, but we have to make better contact.”

With the win, Arcanum continued to build momentum as the Lady Trojans keep finding contributions up and down the lineup during their current five-game surge.
