GREENVILLE—The Darke County Fair board held a special meeting on Thursday evening to discuss multiple resignations, vacant fair board seats, elect new officers and OFMA Delegates. All eight board members present.

Board member Matt Sullivan submitted his resignation on Friday, Nov. 4. Fair board president Doug Martin and Jr. Fair Board Coordinator Beth Martin submitted their resignations minutes before Thursday evening’s special meeting.

Board member Greg Pearson led the meeting.

The board passed a motion to accept all three resignations. Board members Heidi May and David Singer opposed the motion.

Following the acceptance, the board discussed their course of action for the three vacant fair board seats. The previous seats were held by Fair Board Treasurer Thomas Shaw, who resigned on Tuesday, Oct. 25, as well as Sullivan and Martin.

The board once again denied a motion for Jerry Marker, who received the next highest amount of votes in the August 2022 board election, to fill Shaw’s seat.

After some discussion, the board opened the floor to any attendees, that are Darke County Agricultural Society members, open to being appointed to the vacant seats.

Five attendees stood and spoke of their qualifications: Eddie Morrison, Krista Fourman, Kathleen Ditmer, Tim Reck and Brian Rismiller.

The board then passed a motion to accept resumes until Friday, Nov. 25, for candidates to fill the three open seats.

The board said they’d also like applicants to submit a “essay style answer” to why the applicant feels they should be on the board, and why they want to be on the board.

More information will be available on the application requirements in the coming days.

Next, the board elected Pearson as Board President, Jim Zumbrink as Board Vice President and Dudley Lipps as Board Treasurer. The board additionally elected Pearson and Zumbrink as the OFMA Delegates.
