VERSAILLES – Fluffy feathers, sparkly costumes, and big dreams took center stage at this year’s Poultry Days Little Miss Chick Competition, where twenty young contestants charmed the judges and audience with their personalities, poise, and passion.

Each girl took the stage to answer a series of lighthearted questions, ranging from their favorite animal—cats proved to be popular—to what they want to be when they grow up. Answers varied from artist to police officer, baker to volleyball player. The girls also proudly described their costumes, many of which had special touches from family members. Some were homemade by grandmothers or aunts, while others were creatively enhanced with feathers and flair.

When asked about their favorite TV shows, the answers were as colorful as their outfits: Elsa, Barbie, Bluey, Little Mermaid, Haunted House, and Lilo & Stitch all got a mention. A fun twist came when each girl drew a random question that none of the other contestants were asked.

While the judges tallied their scores, the 2024 Little Miss Chick took the mic to reflect on their experiences. Last year’s winner shared an honest and heartwarming moment: “I was nervous, I didn’t want to do it at all,” she admitted with a laugh, recalling how she overcame her stage fright.

The reigning Miss Chick, Elizabeth, also offered advice for the Miss Chick competition to follow the next day: “I was in shock. Everyone did so amazing,” she said. “It never hurts to try. I tried twice. It gives you experience for interviews and gives you life skills.”

Her heartfelt encouragement resonated with the audience and the girls on stage.

First runner-up from 2024, Maddy, echoed those sentiments. “I was so glad to make friends and gain life experience,” she said. “Being confident is the biggest part to succeed in this pageant.” Second runner-up Lauren kept it simple but powerful: “Why would you not apply? Just do it. It’s a great experience.”

In a special moment, the emcee—who has hosted the Little Miss Chick competition for 25 years—was honored with an appreciation award, earning cheers and applause from the crowd.

Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived.
