Educating seniors about upcoming changes to Medicare

DARKE COUNTY – There are several ways to learn what the Darke County Seniors have lined up from month to month. The fastest method is by attending the programs and events offered.

There are always flyers and calendars on hand. The second fastest method is by accessing their page on Facebook ““Darke County Seniors”, and the third method is to read about it in local media. Of course, you can always find a flyer posted numerous locations, such as the library, grocery, and many area businesses and doctor’s offices.

Here are a few upcoming events for November with special emphasis on understanding the many Medicare changes coming in 2026.

Karen Droesch, RD, LD, CDE, of Wayne HealthCare will conduct a cooking demonstration complemented by nutrition guidance for the holiday season. The “Jingle and Mingle” program is scheduled for Friday, November 7th, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. A healthy snack will be provided at the event.

Medicare 101 will be held twice on Wednesday, November 12th. The first class will be held at the Darke County Birchwood Center, 5844 Jaysville-St. Johns Road starting at 3:30 pm. The second class will be held at Wayne HealthCare Community Rooms, Harrison Entrance, Greenville at 6:00 pm proceeded by a complimentary meal at 5:30 pm. Those interested in the meal must RSVP by 11/11 to (937) 569-6504.

Both classes are offered free of charge through the collaborative efforts of the Darke County Senior Center and Wayne HealthCare. Becky Hayward from Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIP) will cover 2026 Medicare changes, eligibility, enrollment, Part A and B updates, prescription coverage (Part D), Medicare Advantage, Medicare supplements, and financial assistance programs.

Individuals may choose to participate in both classes to gain enhanced clarity on the subject matter.

Another “Senior Soothe Me” day is scheduled for Friday, November 14th. From 11:30 am to 2:00 pm, Joe Bush will offer 10 minute chair massages by reservation for $15. Chair massage may help lower cortisol levels, promote relaxation, reduce physical tension in areas such as the neck, shoulders, and back, and improve circulation.

Michelle Hickman will also be available to provide Body Tuning sessions. These sessions utilize sound and energy to soothe, align, and restore the nervous system, promoting overall balance for both body and mind. Many clients have reported positive outcomes from this practice.

To reserve a time slot for the “Senior Soothe Me”, contact Wally at (508) 789-3884 or Mary at (937) 423-2565 by call or text. These times fill quickly; please get in touch soon.
