Dorothy Joan Coppess, 92 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at 1:43 AM at Oakley Place, Greenville, Ohio. Dorothy was born October 4, 1931 in Gettysburg, Ohio, the daughter of the late Elva Dutro and Treva Mae (Brumbaugh) Christian.
Dorothy was an amazing homemaker and her house was always in perfect shape; she was a 1949 graduate of Gettysburg High School where she played in the band; she was a 55-year member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she served on the Social Committee, Altar Guild; and the Coterie Women of the Church. Dorothy’s hobbies included flower gardening and flower arranging, crocheting, quilting, shopping, traveling with her husband, and creating beautiful family dinners on holidays.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pierre Coppess whom she married October 15, 1949 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Versailles, Ohio with Rev. Paul Getter officiating; and her brother, Norman Christian.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Karen and Dan Burchett of Greenville, Doug Coppess and Ramona Myers of Brookville; her grandson, Jonathan and Jessica Mardin; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Miriam Bennett; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Keith Menter officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
