GREENVILLE – Congressman Warren Davidson, just back from the Republican National Convention, shared his thoughts on the convention, former President and presidental candidate Donald Trump, Vice President nominee JD Vance, and Davidson’s race for another term representing Ohio’s Eighth District.
“Occurring in the wake of the assassination attempt on President Trump’s life, there was incredibly heightened security,” Davidson noted. “It was neat to see Cincinnati Police at one of the checkpoints that I was going in and out of and people coming together to ensure the place was secure.”
“Many times you get so much security it loses the kind of reason you want to be there, kind of like the airport sometimes and turns it into this miserable experience, but this convention was festive, people were having a great time, people felt safe, but they definitely felt happy.”
Davidson was impressed with the convention’s nightly talented lineup.
“We couldn’t believe the kind of lineup of talent – that’s what you see for Republicans at this convention. It is a really deep bench,” Davidson said. “We have all kinds of talent from all over the country, and we have people like Mom’s For Liberty, Gold Star Moms, Fentanyl Moms that were out there talking about life experiences they had, and then you had pop-culture icons like Hoke Hogan and Kid Rock out there and a presidential nomination by Dana White, something no one ever thought they would see, but it totally worked.”
“You have people who have known Donald Trump for decades that say, ‘what the media is telling you is not true,’ and you can believe your own eyes, or you can believe this stuff that keeps spewing,” he added. “I think increasingly people are going – ‘what some of the mainstream media has been telling me is not true.’”
Eighth District Congressman Davidson represents Middletown, Ohio, the home of VP candidate JD Vance.
“JD is a guy I have gotten to know pretty well ever since I was a candidate in 2016,” Davidson said. “When he was nominated, people sent me pictures of me with JD all through the years, and he looked much younger without the beard. The beard has definitely honed his look a good bit, and I have aged a bit in the eight years that I have done this, but it is neat to see JD Vance, and what a great pick.”
“JD Vance and his wife look like an amazing team in the nomination, but they are also just getting to know them,” Davidson continued. “They are great people, and when you look at the message it sends, it’s not just about a campaign; it’s about a long-term movement, and that is what they are really saying.”
“Make America Great Again is going to take more than one campaign and more than one term. Picking somebody as young as JD sends that message pretty clearly.”
“JD has a great presence about him, and he has strong intellectual rigger without coming across as like a wonk. He’s a sharp guy. He will be able to hone the movement and give shape to some of the ideas that Donald Trump goes at it instinctively, and JD comes at it a little bit more intellectually.”
With less than four months to the 2024 election, Congressman Davidson will again focus on his upcoming election to retain his seat in the United States House of Representatives.
“It is coming along well,” Davidson said of his campaign. “I certainly won’t take anything for granted. We’ll be out doing the work, but it’s the same opponent that I’ve had two previous times, and the races haven’t been close. Hopefully, we can spend the energy making sure we get reinforcements in the House, get a bigger majority helping Bernie Morino win the Senate and get rid of Sherrod Brown, and frankly save our Court.”
“Ever since Eric Holder, who was Barack Obama’s Attorney General, has targeted state’s Supreme Courts and tried to change congressional districts by changing Supreme Courts around the country,” Davidson added. “They are trying to do that again here in Ohio, so we need to hold our three Republican Supreme Court Justices.”
