GREENVILLE – Darke DD and the City of Greenville celebrated a significant milestone for the community on Friday afternoon.

In addition to newly installed accessible restroom facilities, a universal changing table is now available for those needing it. These facilities will be open 365 days throughout the year and available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

“I have Cerebral Palsy,” Paula Laney, Darke DD Advocate explained. “You might not think about this, but before I go anywhere, I have to make sure places are handicap friendly.”

Laney explained how important these facilities will be and how they will ease the lives of many people. She thanked the City of Greenville and Darke DD for implementing these facilities in the community.

Justin Ord runs a local ADS center in Greenville called My Happy Place, Inc. He provides services for clients who are disabled. He also explained the difficulty of public outings when looking for accessible areas for all of his clients.

“I want to thank everyone responsible for this public restroom. It’s a pleasure to provide it for those visiting our downtown area,” shared City of Greenville, Mayor Jeff Whitaker.

Tonya Clark, Darke DD Director expressed her gratitude to the City of Greenville and their willingness to incorporate the installation of a Universal Changing Table into the bathroom facilities.

“We have such a supportive community and it makes our county even better and a great place to be,” said Clark.

She also shared that the restrooms will be the most accessible location in Darke County due to the hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily and the 365-day schedule.

“This is one of many parts of a bigger project that Darke DD has been implementing in Darke County. I think all of Darke County can appreciate the inclusivity in the county,” said Rachel Neal, President and CEO of Darke County Chamber of Commerce.
