DARKE COUNTY – The Darke County Seniors ventured out on another exciting road trip! This time, their destination was Quiet Harmony Elk Ranch, located north of New Paris, Ohio.
Everyone enjoyed browsing through the gift shop and sampling some of the delicious elk meat and fudge. We also watched an interesting video explaining all about elk and how they are raised at the ranch.
After their visit to the gift shop, they took an auto tour! They were able to drive at their personal vehicles at their own pace to take in all the sights. Of course, they were reminded to stay inside their vehicles because it was rut season for the bulls. The bulls were certainly putting on a show! The bulls proudly displayed their impressive antlers and seemed very attentive as the senior caravan drove by slowly. At least five bulls were seen. After rut season, the bulls shed their antlers naturally.
All felt it was worth the trip. It was a fun outing and a wonderful opportunity to see the beautiful animals up close. Many of the seniors are looking forward to their next Road Trip which will be to the Model T Museum and Warm Glow Candle Company on Friday, November 20th.
Note that those interested in the upcoming road trip are to RSVP by 11/13 by signing up at the Senior Center or text/call (937) 794-2556. Participants will carpool to the Model T Museum in Richmond, Indiana, to view more than 40 original cars. Then travel on to the Warm Glow Candle Company to enjoy all the Christmas decorations, candles, and scents. The museum has a $7 entrance fee ($5 for veterans with ID).
Nearly all events at the Darke County Senior Center are free or less than $10, this is only possible through fundraising efforts, like the recent America 250 quilt raffle, and the upcoming baked goods the organization will offer at the Holiday Horse Parade. Volunteers are needed to bake goodies and/or work the tent (canopy) at the parade on Saturday, November 21st at 7:00 pm.
