Darke County Seniors Enjoy Road Tripping

DARKE COUNTY – The Senior Center took a fun road trip to Rob’s Restaurant in Brookville, Ohio, where everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch. After lunch, the group carpooled to Hilty Alpaca Farm in Medway, Ohio, for an afternoon filled with furry friends and plenty of smiles.

At the farm, the group had an opportunity to visit and feed the alpacas. The animals would gently lick the food from the seniors outstretched palms. Everyone especially enjoyed watching the adorable little alpaca babies jumping and playing around the farm.

There was also time to browse the gift shop which offered many products made from the incredibly soft alpaca fiber, a natural material derived from the fleece of alpacas. Unlike traditional sheep’s wool, alpaca fiber is lanolin-free, making it hypoallergenic and ideal for people with sensitive skin or wool allergies. It was a wonderful day filled with good food, new experiences, and education with lots of laughter and fun sprinkled throughout.

Another road trip is planned for Friday, October 30ththis time to Quiet Harmony Ranch. Those who are interested in attending must RSVP by 10/23. We meet at the Senior Center after lunch at 1 pm and carpool to New Paris, Ohio. You will be responsible for your entrance fee and should consider giving your driver some money to cover gas expenses.
Entrance fee is $13 for an all day senior pass. Sign up at the Senior Center or text/call (937) 794-2556.
This is a working elk ranch where we can learn about elk ranching, take a tour or drive through Elk Adventure to see mamas, babies and majestic bulls with their amazing antlers. There is also easy hiking in Discovery Trails, and some might even wish to check out Action Acres for pedal cars, slides, games, and more. The trip will be fun, social, and an amazing time outdoors, surrounded by nature, elk, and other senior citizens. We will also visit their shop filled with elk meat products, which are raised on this ranch and free of antibiotics.

The DC Senior Center is located at 5844 Jaysville-St. Johns Rd., Greenville. Events are open to anyone 55+, with a membership of $2 per year required. The center keeps office hours from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday through Thursday.
