DARKE COUNTY – On July 20 Darke County Holstein 4-H club held their July 4-H meeting at the Bradford Community Club at 7 pm. The meeting was called to order and we were reminded to wear sunscreen in the summer sun.
A couple of our members went to the 2024 4-H Camp. They explained how fun it was and what they enjoyed best. On August 9th at 5 p.m. at the Extension Office there will be a meeting for the new program, Darke County 4-H Jr. Leaders. It is for any youth 13 and older. You don’t have to be in 4-H to go to these meetings, all you need to do is register on the Darke County 4-H site.
Members were reminded to get their Jr. fair, open show, showmanship, and/or grooming entries entered. These need to be completed by August 1. Make sure all animals have their 840 tags in their ears as there will be no tagging on the fairgrounds. Even though the sale will be different this year, you still need to send out sale letters to your buyers. Invite them to come to the Celebration of Achievements, and explain to them how the sale will work online.
If you have any questions about the sale you can find answers and information in the sales office or you can email, [email protected]. As normal for breeding shows wear all white and for market shows exhibitors wear dark jeans and a T-shirt with a collar. Make sure there are no holes in the pants and wear a belt. The Dairy Dept for Jr. Fairboard has 3 openings, so if you are 14 and older and interested fill out an application on the Jr. Fair website. These are due by August 1.
August 12 at 1 pm is the next meeting and it is mandatory. It will be our barn meeting so fair passes and other important information for the fair will be passed around as well. Also, that day sawdust will be arriving so we will need skidloaders and plenty of help to get it all spread out and placed in the correct spots.
The rest of the meeting we worked on our Fair booth. The theme is, 4-H Is So Sweet! Setup of the booth will be the same day as sawdust and the mandatory barn meeting.
