DARKE COUNTY – On May 19, the Darke County Holstein 4-H Club held its May meeting.
The meeting was called to order and we did roll call. 4-H camp is June 24th -28th at Indian Hills 4-H camp.
The deadline to register is June 7th. Rabbit Skillathon is June 7th from 9-11. The Public Speaking contest is on June 3rd. You can do Demonstrations, Illustrated Talks, Livestock Species Speech, Cloverbud Pledge, or volunteer. The deadline to register is May 31st by 4:30 pm.
Our club decided to buy halters for our 6 new members.
The Dairy Skillathon is June 21st from 9-11 am, along with Feeder calf tagging. Make sure your feeder calves are dehorned. Your calves must also weigh at least 250 lbs and not over 800 lbs. The make-up Skillathon is July 19th, 9-11 am in the youth building.
The Dairy essay topic is How do Advancements in Technology Affect the Dairy Industry. Your essay must be at least 500 words. Our Booth theme for the fair is Let’s Taco bout 4-H.
Make sure to get your fair tickets by the end of July, the price goes up on August 1st.
Our club is selling fair tickets at Rural King on July 11th from 10 am to 5 pm. 2025 Livestock sale lot forms need to be filled out by June 15th if you are planning on selling online. The link is on the Jr. Fair Website.
Your Jr. Fair photo ID badge needs to be done by July 29th; they will not accept late requests. On May 28th at the Preble County Fairgrounds from 6:30-8 pm, they are having The Foundation of Champions. There will be a Showmanship Clinic, free meals, Door prizes, Show Supply Dealers, and Nutrition Experts. We then did demonstrations.
Our Graduates this year are Marrissa Hicks, Sophia Aultman, and Will Bohman. We then adjourned the meeting.
