Darke County Harness Horsemen’s Association to hold Annual Spring Matinee

GREENVILLE – The Darke County Harness Horsemen’s Association will be holding their Annual Spring Matinee on Saturday, May 17 at the Darke County Fairgrounds. Races will start at noon. Free admission and open to the public.

Entries will be posted as soon as possible on the DCHHA Facebook page.

A spring matinee is mainly for young 2 and 3-year-old horses learning to race. It’s a teaching session that includes the starting gait, race announcing, different surroundings, and an audience they’re not used to. These will be time-bar races ONLY, meaning each race is classified to go in a specified time according to how fast the trainer wants the horse to go in. Horses have to learn to go fast, just like any other sport. Trophies will be presented to the horse closest to the specified time.

It’s a possibility that these horses that participate in the matinee will then race at the Great Darke County  Fair come August and wouldn’t it be neat to see the transformation! You never know, the next superstar might develop at our matinee like so many other great race horses.

Concession will be available along with a 50/50 drawing.

Please call Brian Jones at 937-417-6173 with any questions.

The DCHHA would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors who supported us at our recent awards banquet. The money raised at this event supports the matinee, racing at the fair, many annual capital improvements at the fairgrounds, and various other activities and events.
