PREBLE COUNTY – The Preble County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Sunday, August 30, 2026, on West Dayton Street near Voge Street in West Alexandria. At approximately 3:45 P.M., the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call advising that a pick-up truck had struck a parked vehicle and that two pedestrians had also been struck.
The preliminary investigation found that a 2012 Ford F250 pick-up was traveling west on West Dayton Street and struck a 2005 Cadillac Escalade that was legally parked on the north side of the street. That impact pushed the Cadillac into a 2021 GMC Sierra pick-up truck that was also legally parked.
Two residents were outside near their vehicles when the crash occurred and were struck.
Donna Tubesing, age 80 of West Alexandria, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Kenton Tubesing, age 80, was transported to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton with serious injuries.
The driver of the at-fault vehicle, David W. Shafer, age 46 of Eaton, was transported to Reid Hospital in Richmond with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators suspect impaired driving was a factor in this crash.
The West Alexandria Fire and EMS, Eaton Fire & EMS and the West Alexandria Police Department responded to the scene.
The investigation is continuing and remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, the Preble County Coroner’s Office and the Preble County Prosecutor’s Office.
