GREENVILLE – The Darke County Board of Commissioners met Thursday afternoon.
Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs and Larry Holmes were all present.
Prior to the regular session, Commissioners signed two proclamations. The first proclamation was to recognize October 2024 as ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’. The second proclamation recognized October 13, 2024, as ‘Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day in Darke County, Ohio’.
During the signing, the Assistant Clerk/Secretary Karen Avore, shared a moving message and her story.
“We want to celebrate survivors, thrivers, and fighters,” said Avore. “I was inducted into the ‘C-Club’ in 2014. Every cancer is different, one treatment may work for one and not for another. I’m thankful for the resources in Darke County. We’re fortunate to have a wonderful cancer center. “
Many gathered during the signing to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Some in attendance were survivors and others were family members there to support their loved ones.
“Cancer has given me a couple lessons, and these are lessons that everyone can use. Enjoy every day, every day is a gift. No one knows how much time we have. Stop and think, what are they going through today? Also, it’s fine to not be fine,” continued Avore.
Under Resolution (R-359-2024), Examination and Allowance of Bills dated October 10th, 2024, were read and approved. The amount of the General Fund was $78,564.70; Outside General Funds were $687,101.72; with a Grand Total of $765,666.42.
Commissioners approved the Submittal of Darke County’s PY2024 Analysis of Fair Housing Impediments.
“Darke County, under its Fair Publishing program that’s administered through our CDBG funding that we receive. As a requirement, submitting an analysis of impediments every five years. 2024 is the fifth year that we need to submit,” explained Grants Community Development Director, Susan Laux.
This analysis reviews the demographics of the community regarding population, housing, and talks about what the impediments of Fair Housing are.
Commissioners also approved a Speed Limit Change on a section of Pitsburg Laura Road. The change is to replace the 55 MPH to 35 MPH to match the south side of the road within the village. Commissioner Combs noted that this change is for public and traffic safety.
The Darke County Board of Commissioners meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30 pm.
