Commissioners review resurfacing, paving bids

GREENVILLE—The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Thursday afternoon to discuss bids regarding resurfacing and pavement markings. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs and Larry Holmes were all present.

The board received a bid of $2,132,558.80, from Walls Brothers Asphalt, of Greenville, for the resurfacing of 20.18 miles of six different county roads, ranging from .97 miles to 6.13 miles in length.

The work will include 17,266 gallons of liquid asphalt tack coat, 19,822 tons of asphalt (hot mix), and 4442 tons of aggregate (gravel) berm, which will be placed along the sides following the resurfacing.

Darke County Engineer Jim Surber estimated the job would cost $2,093,867.50. The board accepted the bid from Walls Brothers for review.

Next, the board received a bid of $409,554.06 from The AeroMark Company, of Streetsboro, for the application of painted centerlines and edgelines on county and township roads.

The work on county roads includes 330.3 miles of centerlines and no-passing zones, requiring an estimated 5,500 gallons of yellow paint and 44,000 pounds of reflective beads. Included is the application of 581.23 lane-miles of white edgeline, requiring an estimated 9650 gallons of white paint and 77,200 pounds of reflective beads.

The work on township roads and in the Village of Versailles includes 55.6 miles of centerline, and no-passing zones, requiring an estimated 1037 gallons of yellow paint and 8,296 pounds of reflective beads. Townships intend to apply 7.02 lane-miles of white edgeline, requiring an estimated 135 gallons of white paint and 1,080 pounds of reflective paint.

Surber estimated the job would cost $454,915. The board accepted the bid from The AeroMark Company for review.

Then, the board approved Resolution (R-58-2023), for Commissioner Combs to replace former Commissioner Mike Stegall as the Darke County Board of Commissioners representative on the Main St. Greenville Board.

Lastly, the board approved a quote recommended by Darke County Facilities Manager Dale Musser for vehicle maintenance at the Darke County Coroner’s Office from State Line Power, of Greenville. The quote is $24,567.
