Commissioner’s Meeting October 5

The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Thursday to discuss an OSU extension update, funds for the Shelter from Violence, and more.

Commissioners Matt Aultman and Marshall Combs were present.

The board heard an OSU Extension update from Caden Buscher. They have a few events coming up, including Farm Safety Training Day, three Library Programs (Growing and Using Herbs, Sustainability, and Invasive Species), and they are planning a five-session Western Ohio Dairy Luncheon.

Buscher also introduced Mercedes McFarland. McFarland is the new 4-H Youth Development Educator with the OSU Extension for Darke County. She started last Monday.

“I’m really excited to be here and work with you guys,” McFarland said.

The board then approved a letter of support from Erica Goubeaux, President of Shelter from Violence Inc. This letter asks to provide funds for 2024 Domestic Violence fees. The estimated receipts are $11,000 for the year, and the payments will be made semi-annually.

“The Shelter for Violence is a program here for women and the services they provide,” Commissioner Aultman said. “It’s always good to support the program; it’s too bad our community needs the program.”

The board also approved Resolution (R-319-2023). This fund advance covers Mikesell Excavating for an emergency injunction and order to demolish 104 N. Main St., Hollansburg. This advances $33,500 out of the general fund and will be advanced back once revenue is received from the 2022 Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Grant.

The beard then approved Resolution (R-320-2023). This fund advance covers the Willo Products invoice for work progress and stored materials for September 2023. This advances $171,641.90 out of the general fund and will be advanced back once revenue is received from the Local Jail Capital Project Grant.

At the end of the meeting, Commissioner Combs discussed the Main Street Greenville board finishing up the Mural Project with the Mural committee.

“There will be two going up downtown here, one behind the building at the end down where the Early Bird is located, and the other will be on the backside of SureShot Tap House,” Commissioner Combs said. “I believe the first one will be installed on October 19. They will have a reveal party with food and drinks. They really want the community to show up for that. It’s a really big deal. The Mural Committee worked really hard on it.”
