Commissioners award Maguire Iron Inc. Contract for Gettysburg Water Tower Project

1026

The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the Gettysburg Water Tower Replacement Project, Reed Road Well Field Transmission Line Phase II, and more.

Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs, and Larry Holmes were present.

The board approved a letter of recommendation and notice of award for the Water Tower Replacement project in the Village of Gettysburg. Access Engineering Solutions, Llc, reviewed the bids received on October 24 for this project and, with approval by the Village of Gettysburg, has recommended Maguire Iron, Inc. to the Commissioners.

The board approved the notice of award that has been sent to Maguire Iron, Inc. The contract price is $1,303,000

The board then approved a standard form of agreement and notice to proceed between the commissioners and Shinn Bros., Inc., for the Reed Road Well Field Transmission Line Phase II in the Village of Versailles. The total for this contract is $1,197,500. Darke County will cover $5000,000 through the CDBG Economic Development Grant, and the Village of Versailles will cover $697,500 through OWDA (WPCLF) and Local funds. Completion for Phase II is set for September 15, 2024.

The board also approved Resolution (R-385-2023). This is a fund advance back from WAGC. This advances $480,000 back into the general fund.

“Back when we paid off all the county debts last year, we paid it ahead, so basically, the county loaned itself money to an outside fund, which is the Wagner Avenue Facility, to pay off the debt that was out there on the bonding,” Commissioner Matt Aultman said. “As the decision was made, the Wagner facility would pay off the debt back to the county over time. This is one of the first payments that we have set up over seven years. So, instead of letting the interest carry out there, we paid the debt off; Wagner is paying us back, so we saved all the interest savings on top of paying off the county debt last year.

The board then approved Resolution (R-386-2023). This is a transfer of appropriations for the county’s share of the 2023 Broadband Ohio Grant. This transfers $857,179.

The board went on to approve Resolution (R-387-2023). This is a fund advance of $400,000 to cover CIC’s share of the Broadband grant. This will be advanced back into the general fund once the revenue is received from the grant.
