GREENVILLE – The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Thursday afternoon to discuss a truck for DC Solid Waste, an ODOT Grant, and more.

Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs, and Larry Holmes were present.

The board approved a quote for Darke County Solid Waste. The board looked at three quotes for a new truck. The board approved a quote from Hittle GMC for a 2024 GMC Sierra HD for a total of $50,690.

The board then approved Resolution (R-427-2023). This is a Matching Grant between the Darke County Commissioners and the Ohio Department of Transportation. This is for the Reconstruct Terminal Building Phase 4/5, constructing a terminal access road at the Dark County Airport. The total cost for this project is $383,724; ODOT agrees to provide a maximum of $18,590 in state funds.

The board also approved a quote for a Thermo Scientific Portable Analytical Instrument with a five-year Warranty. This is used for the identification of Heroin and other special narcotics for a total cost of $39,204. The Solid Waste District will pay for this.

“This is a drug detection piece of equipment,” Commissioner Aultman said. “It can go in and shoot a laser at a product, through a bag, so an officer doesn’t have to open it to see what it is.”

“This is a hand-held device; you can point it at something, and it quickly identifies control substances and different types of narcotics, and it gives a rapid test on it. That way, before anything is opened or handled, we can tell what it is,” Commissioner Combs said. “The other thing is this will keep people safe during all of the recycling events that we have and host throughout the year, especially during the trash bash event with all the kids and 4-H volunteers.”

The board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Job and Family Services to address child abuse and neglect. The two primary goals of this are to eliminate unnecessary interviews of children who are the subject of reports of child abuse or neglect and to, when possible, conduct only one interview of a child who is the subject of a report of child abuse or neglect.

The Darke County Board of Commissioners holds a regular session every Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30 pm at 520 South Broadway, Greenville, Ohio 45331. For more information, contact the commissioners’ office at 937-547-7370.
