Commissioners and Greenville Mayor Sign Constitution Week Proclamation

GREENVILLE – The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday to sign a proclamation to declare September 17-23, 2023, as “Constitution Week.”

The Proclamation states,

“Whereas: September 17, 2023, marks the two hundred thirty sixth year anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and

“Whereas: It is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this magnificent document and its memorable anniversary; and to the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate the occasion; an

Whereas: Public Law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America designating September 17 through 23 as Constitution Week,

Now, Therefore We, the board of Darke County Commissioners, by virtue of the authority vested as a BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS for the County of Darke, in the State of Ohio, do hereby proclaim the week of September 17 through 23, 2023, as Constituion Week.

And ask our citizens to reaffirm the ideals of the Framers of the Constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained.

In witness whereof, we, the board of Darke County Commissioners, have hereunto set our hands and caused the Seal of the County of Darke to be affixed this 19th day of September of the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-three.”

All three commissioners signed. Mayor Stephen Willman was also given a copy of this proclamation to sign.

Mayor Stephen Willman also signed a second proclamation in this meeting. Mayor Willman signed a proclamation to declare Sunday, September 24, 2023, as Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day in Greenville, Ohio.

This proclamation states,

“Whereas, throughout our history, America’s men and women in uniform have dedicated their lives and made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom and the freedom of oppressed people around the world; and

Whereas, our Nation is forever indebted to those who gave their last full measure of devotion to defend our peace and security; and

Whereas, when we remember these fallen service members, we must also honor the people who mourn their losses by paying special tribute to their surviving families on Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day; and

Whereas, the families of our fallen men and women in uniform understand the true and painful price of freedom – coping with loss and unspeakable grief, so we stand with them to preserve the legacy of their fallen loved ones and pledge that their memories and their sacrifices will never be forgotten; and

Whereas, the Congress, by Senate Joint Resolution 115 of June 23, 1936 (49 Stat. 1895 as amended), has designated the last Sunday in September as “Gold Star Mother’s Day.”

Now, Therefore, I, Stephen M. Willman, Mayor of the City of Greenville, do hereby proclaim Sunday, September 24, 2023, as Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day in Greenville, Ohio. I encourage the community to display the flag and hold appropriate ceremonies as a public expression of our gratitude and respect for our Gold Star Mothers and Families.
