LA CROSSE, Wis. — Coach Montaous Walton is wasting no time making his presence felt at Western Technical College, bringing experience, energy, and a proven winning résumé to a Cavaliers program that has already established itself as a competitive force and playoff contender.
Now settled back in his home state of Wisconsin — just a short drive from Minneapolis — Walton has joined the Cavaliers as associate head baseball coach and recruiting coordinator, teaming with head coach Joshua Knoll to form what many around the program are calling a dynamic duo. Together, the two are focused on building depth, elevating recruiting, and pushing Western Tech deeper into postseason play.
Widely regarded as a veteran of the college baseball ranks, Walton brings decades of experience and a track record of success across several states, including Ohio, Kansas, Mississippi, Minnesota, and now Wisconsin. His coaching journey includes a standout run at Wright State Lake Campus, where he was part of a World Series appearance in 2021, and a championship stint at Rust College. At Rust, Walton helped guide the program to a World Series appearance, a conference championship, and a regular-season title in 2023.
Those accomplishments, along with his reputation as a tireless recruiter and program builder, have positioned Walton as a respected figure in college baseball circles — and someone whose future could include Hall of Fame consideration or even a role in professional scouting.
“I love this game, and I’m really looking forward to the upcoming 2026 season,” Walton said. “I see a bright future for our program here at Western Tech. We have some really good players coming in this fall, along with some talented transfers, and I’m excited about what we can accomplish together.”
The Western Tech Cavaliers are preparing to open their new season with momentum after a successful 2025 campaign that included a strong playoff run. With Walton now on staff and recruiting efforts gaining traction, expectations are high that the Cavaliers can take another step forward — both in the conference race and beyond.
