LIBERTY, Ind. – The Union City football team dominated the Union County Patriots 50-6 on Saturday for not only their first win of the season but also Kyler Purdin’s first victory as the Indians’ new head coach!
“It feels good to see our guys have success. To get that first win is huge, I feel like we have been in a few ball games that we should have won and it finally clicked,” Coach Purdin said.
The Indians have been able to put points on the board throughout their first five games but were just not able to match their opponents’ offensive attack.
“Our offense is averaging 28 points a game but we have struggled defensively to slow teams down and I feel like against Union County our defense stepped up and played well, only allowing one score,” Coach Purdin added. “Hopefully, this can give us something to build on and allow us to win a few ball games heading into the Sectional Tournament.”
“Jayson Connor has done a great job leading our offense along with Trendon Spence, Brayden Huggins, and D’Shaun Ware. On the defensive side of the ball Xavier Hill and Jace O’Connor have really stepped up and made some big plays for us,” Coach concluded.
The game ball went to Senior Jace O’Connor. Union City Athletic Director Keith Maloy was honored to present Coach Purdin with the game ball for his first win.
The Indians have three Tri-Eastern Conference games remaining before heading into the playoffs. Next up is another road game to square off against Lincoln this Friday.
