GREENVILLE – The Public Relations Committee of the Greenville Business & Professional Women’s Club (BPW) kicked off the new year by hosting the January 9th meeting which was held at the Chestnut Village in Greenville.

The committee consisted of Chair Joelle York and members Holly Lovely, Jodie Anderson, Dorothy Poeppelman, Joanne Pittenger and Susan Fowble.

Victoria Martin, Professional Clinical Counselor and sole owner of Martin Counseling & Consultation was the speaker. She spoke on women’s mental health and their need to ‘do it all’. She encouraged everyone to take time to reset. Martin provided statistics where 1 in 5 women report mental health issues. More women suffer from anxiety which is the number one diagnosis. Over 36% of women are diagnosed with depression and 89% request a leave of absence from work due to mental health issues.

What can we do? Vickie suggests taking care of ourselves with massages, vacation, counseling, medication, grounding, meditation, mindfulness, exercise and something as simple as getting your hair done.

Proper eating, setting boundaries by learning how to say ‘no’, and educating oneself on taking care of ourselves were other suggestions for improving mental health.
