ARCANUM – The Carroll Lady Patriots, one of the state’s better 2026 teams, brought an impressive 12-3 season record to Arcanum and went home with a 52-30 win over the Arcanum Lady Trojans.
“My girls showed a lot of grit and a lot of grind – we have to keep that going,” said Arcanum coach Abbey Moore. “They’re in a higher division than us, but those are the games that I want to have to be able to test our competitiveness.”

Coach Moore schedules tough non-conference games to sharpen the Lady Trojans’ skills.
“That’s why we have teams like Carroll on our schedule – to test our competitiveness,” Moore said. “I saw some good things on the floor today, and to get to that level, it takes a lot of commitment. There are a lot of girls on that team who are probably going to play basketball at the next level, and who are highly committed to the sport of basketball and put a lot of time into it.”
The Lady Patriots put a lineup on the court that was taller at each position, taking the opening quarter 16-6 and period No. 2 12-6 to lead 28-12 at the break.
“It’s tough when they are so long and lengthy and can throw over the top of your zone and hit that skip pass,” said Moore. “Our rotation was a little too slow to cover that skip pass, so it leaves you vulnerable for that. They struggled a little from the three-point line, and that enabled us keep it a somewhat competitive game.”

A game that had the makings of a lopsided win with a running clock did not play out that way as Arcanum battled back in the second half with the visitors taking the two quarters by a total of six points; an 11-8 third period, and by 13-10 in the fourth, making Carroll work for the 22-point win.
“I was hoping we could have gotten it back to 10 points there in the second half, but just weren’t able to close that gap, “ Coach Moore stated. “We were a little cold today, knocking down shots. We have to find other ways to score and get creative with that a little, but it’s going to start on defense.”

The Arcanum defense held Carroll under their 56.6 offensive points per game output.
I felt like we made them work for some shots, and they had to take some time off the clock to get some of their scores,” Coach Moore noted.” It’s tough when they are so long and lengthy and can throw over the top of your zone and hit that skip pass.”
Kiera Healy led Carroll and all scorers with a game-high 23 points. Caroline Long paced the Lady Trojans with 14 points.
