UNION CITY – The Union City Police Department announces the conclusion of a significant drug possession case involving 24-year-old Gabriella Cantu.
Initially charged in 2023 with possession of a bulk amount of methamphetamine, Cantu’s defense filed a motion to suppress evidence, which was granted by the Darke County Common Pleas Court. However, following an appeal by the Darke County Prosecutor’s Office and the Second District Court of Appeals, the decision was reversed.
Cantu has since accepted a plea bargain, pleading guilty to Aggravated Possession of Drugs (methamphetamine) a felony of the second degree. She was sentenced to a minimum of two and a maximum of three years in the Ohio Department of Corrections. She has been placed in the custody of the Darke County Sheriff’s Office awaiting transport to prison.
The Union City Police Department remains committed to combatting drug-related crimes that impact our community. We extend our gratitude to the Darke County Prosecutor’s Office for their diligence and collaboration, ensuring accountability for those who endanger our residents with illegal substances.
