Building a WINNER

Parents, if you would like, Coach Channell is willing to make a home visit to talk to your young man ... Mike Stegall

GREENVILLEThis morning, Coach Steve Channell, the new Greenville Football Coach, did a video on My County Link, hoping to get more young men to participate in football. Right now, he has about 53 players on his roster; he wants somewhere in the mid-60s. He does talk glowingly about the men he has now, especially the seniors.

This group of 16 has never been on a winning program, and they are showing up to change that! They believe in what they are doing and are working hard to become a good football team. That takes time, commitment, and effort, and they are willing to put in the work to bring some pride to the community and the school. They are to be commended. However, some more help would surely make the winning process easier.

I would like to see some more young men at all levels of our school system make a commitment to becoming winners. Even if you have never played football before, or quit because you didn’t like losing or the coaches before, now is the time to re-commit. Coach Channell is willing to take any young man who wants to play. I know there are some out there who are maybe thinking about trying out, and I hope you take the chance.

The biggest reason most young men in Greenville don’t come out is that they don’t want to lose. However, if you don’t even try out, you’ve already lost! Give it a try! This is a good group of coaches, good senior leaders, and young men in high school who want to make a difference. As coach says “WHY NOT US? Why not us, I know we can do it, and the coaching staff does too.

So, if you are a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior who wants to try out, PLEASE DO! You could be on the ground floor of starting something special in Greenville. We have one of the best stadiums in the area now, and playing there will be an honor. Things are growing at the school, and you could be a big part of it.

Parents, if you would like, Coach Channell is willing to make a home visit to talk to your young man and you about the future here. His is a total commitment, and he wants that from all students and parents. You can email him at Stevechannell24@gmail.com and he will get back to you.

Next Wednesday evening, the 16th, he will hold a session at the new stadium and wants everyone to come and see it, and meet him. My County Link will be there, and we will do a video with him and a few others while it is happening. Come on out, meet the coach and his staff, see this beautiful new stadium, and discover what he’s building here. I think you will be impressed with him and the athletes he has now. Hopefully, your son will get the bug and want to be a part of something he can be proud of in the future. We have to start somewhere, and here is where we begin. Coach is willing to answer any questions you or your young man has.

Let’s start something here. We have the facilities and the enthusiasm to change things for the better, so WHY NOT US?

That’s the way I see it … from the sidelines!
